Welcome note from Bryn Mawr College Russian Flagship Directors

Dear Colleagues and Friends of The Language Flagship:

On behalf of Bryn Mawr College, we warmly welcome you to The Language Flagship Annual Meeting in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, May 20–22, 2018.

Bryn Mawr College is a private, liberal arts college that hosts 1,350 undergraduate women and 400 graduate students (both women and men) from 45 states and 62 countries. When the College opened its doors in 1885, other women's colleges existed, but Bryn Mawr was the first in the U.S. to offer graduate education through the Ph.D. Today, Bryn Mawr remains as academically ambitious as it was at its founding.

Our location offers students access to the cultural resources of a major metropolitan area, while the broad diversity of Bryn Mawr students, faculty, and alumnae/i contributes to a global community that encourages international experiences, friendships and networks. Engaging in scholarship, research, internships, and work around the world is the norm here and a source of both joy and pride.

In addition to 37 majors and 53 minors and concentrations, the College’s academic offerings include interdisciplinary 360° courses; a number of A.B./M.A. options; the opportunity to earn an engineering degree through partnerships with CalTech and the University of Pennsylvania; and extensive experiential learning opportunities. Long-standing relationships with Haverford, Swarthmore, and Penn give Bryn Mawr students a range of academic options unavailable at most other liberal arts colleges. Co-educational graduate schools of Arts and Sciences and Social Work and Social Research, as well as our post-baccalaureate premedical program, round out Bryn Mawr’s diverse academic offerings.

Our Russian Language Flagship program, established at Bryn Mawr over 10 years ago, is open to Bryn Mawr, Haverford, and Swarthmore College (Tri-Co) undergraduates committed to attaining professional level language proficiency. For more information about the Russian Language Flagship Program at Bryn Mawr please visit our webpage:

We hope that in addition to visiting our beautiful campus, you will also enjoy the variety of international cultures and cuisines that make the greater Philadelphia area such a thriving place. We look forward to welcoming you this May to another fantastic Flagship Annual Meeting.

With best wishes,

Dr. Tim Harte, Co-Director, Bryn Mawr Russian Flagship
Dr. Irina Walsh, Co-Director, Bryn Mawr Russian Flagship
